Fluoride in Drinking Water

All water delivered by Suburban Water Systems contains naturally occurring fluoride. In addition, supplemental water that Suburban Water Sytems purchases from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and provides to its customers contains fluoride as a dental aid.

In November 2007, Metropolitan joined a majority of the nation’s public water suppliers in adding fluoride to drinking water in order to prevent tooth decay. In line with recommendations from the CDPH, as well as the CDC, Metropolitan adjusts the natural fluoride level in imported water from the Colorado River and State Project water to the optimal range for dental health of 0.7 to 1.3 parts per million. Fluoride levels in the drinking water are limited under California state regulations at a maximum dosage of two parts per million.
