We are thrilled to share that South Carolina Water Utilities has been approved by the South Carolina Public Service Commission to consolidate with Blue Granite Water Company!  This marks the largest water utility consolidation in South Carolina’s history and represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable water and wastewater services.

By bringing these utilities together under one structure, we can make more strategic infrastructure investments, streamline operations, and continue improving service for customers across South Carolina.

Below are the answers to some frequently-asked questions:

4. How will this consolidation affect me as a customer?

The consolidation brings together over 70,000 customer connections across the Midlands, Piedmont, and Upstate under one utility. This will enhance service reliability and operational efficiency, ultimately improving your experience.

We are updating our billing systems, and you may receive a bill with a shorter or longer billing cycle. Billing cycles will naturally level out to normal.

8. Will there be any changes to my water rates?

No. There are no rate changes; this is a consolidation of companies.  This consolidation is designed to provide long-term rate stability. Any proposed rate increases would go through a lengthy approval process by the South Carolina Public Service Commission, and you would be notified in advance. The consolidation is expected to lessen the impact of potential future rate increases.

9. How will customer service be affected by this consolidation?

We anticipate that this merger will strengthen customer service and improve response times as we combine resources and enhance service quality.
