Texas Water Utilities is committed to maintaining and upgrading critical, local utility systems. In 2025, we invested $6.3 million in the Hornsby Bend/Austin's Colony area. A priority project was the transition to a new, softer water source.
While the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) do not enforce a specific standard for water hardness, TWU heard concerns from residents and worked hard to reduce water hardness by incorporating treated groundwater with much lower hardness into our supply mix.
These changes have significantly reduced hardness levels for customers in Hornsby Bend. Customers should expect hardness of less than 50 mg/L going forward versus 350 mg/L. You can read more about this project and steps you may want to take if you have a home water softener here.
Committed to Water QualityOur water continues to meet TCEQ drinking water standards. On July 2, 2026, TCEQ visited our system to conduct independent testing. They tested water samples for the presence of metals at the four entry points in the local water system. TCEQ informed TWU that testing confirmed our compliance - this means the samples are below the maximum contaminant level for each metal tested.

Committed to Giving Back
We are committed to the public health and safety of the community. Just as important as water quality is the opportunity to volunteer and give back. Recently, our field operators completed their annual neighborhood clean-up. They picked up trash within Austin's Colony and along the main boulevard. Our operators take pride in taking care of the area and providing you with safe, clean water for your families.
