Dear Ashley Hills North Resident:
On February 12, 2026, Carolina Water Service of North Carolina (CWSNC) notified approximately 237 customers in the Ashley Hills North area of a uranium exceedance identified through routine testing, as required by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ). Upon receipt of the annual test results, Well 3 (the affected well) was taken offline immediately.
Since then, CWSNC has installed new filtration equipment at Well 3. Recent test results confirm that the water now meets drinking water standards, and the well has been returned to service. Water remains safe for normal use, including drinking, cooking, and bathing.
While Well 3 was offline, the system’s remaining two wells continued to operate in full compliance and provided sufficient capacity to supply safe drinking water to the community. As required by regulations, CWSNC will continue to provide customers with quarterly testing updates.
Uranium compliance is evaluated using the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL), calculated as a running annual average. Because this average includes results from multiple sampling periods, CWSNC is required to continue customer notifications until the annual average falls below the MCL, even when individual test results show improvement. The attached notice provides additional details about the corrective actions taken and the steps required to return the system to full compliance.
